FYI -- not here to debate about the flu vaccine -- that can take up a billion posts of differing opinions. I for one, take the flu vaccine as a healthcare worker and because having had the flu 8 months pregnant with my 1st child (never had the flu vaccine before that) -- I literally prayed for death it was so horrible! This is just to make everyone aware -- there are TWO dosing for this year's flu vaccine -- High Dose and regular dose. Read here about the new high dose for adults 65 and over:
Why is a higher dose vaccine available for adults 65 and older?
Human immune defenses become weaker with age, which places older people at greater risk of severe illness from influenza. Also, ageing decreases the body's ability to have a good immune response after getting influenza vaccine. A higher dose of antigen in the vaccine is supposed to give older people a better immune response, and therefore, better protection against flu.
So if you do get the flu vaccine yearly and over 65 (or know anyone who does), make sure they are getting the high dose this year!
Educate yourself, knowledge is power!
